Catalonia

In the northeastern Iberian peninsula is Catalonia. It is a part of a nation without state in Spain; covers an area of 32,114 km² with an official population of 7,535,251. Because of the history, language and a distinct cultural, political and legal tradition that moulded the personality of this country and their people. Now this is an autonomous community within Spain with a government of its own that is known as the Generalitat. With 580 km of Mediterranean coastline, it is a land of rich and much scenery and it is best for nautical sports. While in Catalan Pyrenees it is ideal for skiing, hiking, and adventure sports.  It is surrounded by four provinces; Barcelona, Girona, Lleida and Tarragona. Barcelona is the largest city and Catalonia’s capital and it offers a lively cultural life and good shopping. This is also one of the most important ports on the Mediterranean. In Girona and Tarragona it has a rich architectural heritage that is preserved with magnificent historic buildings.

Catalonia has many attractions. There are many cities and places you can visit in Catalonia. The city with fabulous art museums like Gaudi architecture and other is Barcelona. For garden lovers with Blanes’ Botanical Garden, the Jardi Botanic Mar I Murta that is designed by Karl Faust in 1928 is Blanes. Cadaques is one of the most picturesque villages in Spain and home of the Casa-Museu Salvador Dali. The magnificent medieval town Besaku. Peratallada, a medieval village and one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. And many more cities and place you can visit. If you want to go to museums. There are many museums in Catalonia like in Figueres the Salvador Dali Museum; Teatre-Museu Dali displays Dali artwork. A medieval castle in Pubol that Dali bought for his wife Gala, the Casa Museu Castell Gala Dali contains artworks and furniture that Dali gave to Gala. Near Cadaques, Casa Musseu Salvador, Dali and Gala’s home created from a number of fishermen’s huts. There are many monasteries that can be found also here like Monastery of Montserrat (Monestir de Montserrat), Monastery of Pobllet (Monestir de Poblet), Monestir de Santes Creus, Monestir de Santa Maria, Ripoll, and Monestir de Vallbona de les Monges. There are a number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites here like Archaeological Ensemble of Tarraco, Tarragona; Catalan Romanesque Churches at Vall de Boi; Poblet Monastery, Poblet, Tarragona province; Palau de la Musica Catalana and Hospital de Sant Pau, Barcelona; Rock Art of the Mediterranean Bassin on the Iberian Peninsula; Antoni Gaudi works like Sagrada Familia, Barcelona; Parc Guell, Barcelona; Palau Guell, Barcelona; and Casa Mila, Barcelona. Catalonia has only one National Park that is the National Park of Aiguestortes. A mountainous area in the Spanish Pyrenees and has some of the most spectacular scenery to be seen in the Pyrenees. It covers more than 100 square kilometer. You can also here lakes, waterfalls, tarns and forest of fir, silver birch and beech. If you are in to skiing you cango to Vielha a modern ski resort in the Vall d’Aran, Bacqueira Beret is one of the best ski resorts in Spain, for intermediates and advanced skiers is the La Masella and Boi-Taull and for beginner and families is Nuria, Port-Aine and Super Espot.
